Proyectos

Projects

At CICHAZ we have new research projects starting all the time depending on visiting researchers' interests. A few projects (both active and in development) include:

The Ecological and Social Impacts of Regenerative Ranching in Mexico's Sierra Madre Oriental

This project, funded by Texas A&M University and CONACyT, brings together researchers and ranchers from Mexico and the United States to address critical questions around regenerative ranching practices that have the potential to preserve a region’s biodiversity as well as create economic and social opportunities.

The Rosenthal Lab

Dr. Rosenthal and the graduate students affiliated with his lab have ongoing projects at CICHAZ. Current funding by an NSF LTREB grant  combines population, quantitative, and evolutionary genetics with morphological studies of male signals and behavioral studies of mate preferences.

The Schumer Lab

The Schumer lab is interested in the genetic and evolutionary consequences of hybridization, with a specific focus on how hybrids resolve genetic conflicts between divergent genomes. The lab relies on diverse natural populations of hybridizing swordtail fish accessible from CICHAZ and other resources offered by CICHAZ for this work. Ongoing projects at CICHAZ are currently funded by HHMI and NIH grants to study the genetic consequences of hybridization from the individual to the species level.
